”Ravi Agarwal’s pivotal photojournalistic enterprise takes us into the daily routine of India’s poor and landless workers of South Gujarat. Through his photographs we are confronted with an extremely heterogeneous informal sector of “pre-industrial’ labor in cramped manufactories, slums, on streets, in fields, quarries, and on the move.
The workers, excluded from citizenship and the hypermobility of capital, build and support the economy but are not granted access to the accumulated wealth. In 1996, Agarwal founded his own organization Toxic Link, a community-driven information exchange network specializing in collecting and disseminating scientific information on issues of urban waste management.”
