Title: Personal Effects : Sculpture and Belongings
5 September - 17 October 1998, Spacex Gallery, Exeter
Jordan Baseman; Dorothy Cross; Tracey Emin; Edward Lipski; Nina Saunders; Yinka Shonibare

Press release text written by the exhibition curator, Alex Farquharson - from the text: “Personal Effects brings together diverse sculpture by six acclaimed artists, many of which have not been exhibited before. All the objects on view suggest histories of belonging (to individuals, families or societies). In instances where a second hand object was the starting point the objects carry the actual traces of ownership. Others are unreliable reproductions, apparently made or owned by fictional individuals or collectives. All imply different perspectives on the notion of how memory attaches itself to objects.”
