“The Arts Council Collection is the largest national loan collection of post-war British art. It has no permanent gallery. Instead, exhibitions are toured and many individual works are on view in galleries throughout the country. The Collection is administered by the South Bank Centre on behalf of the Arts Council of Great Britain and based at the Hayward Gallery on the South Bank in London.“ From the foreword: “This exhibition concentrates upon the present and the more recent past. Political and socials concerns have given rise to such a diversity of work that to go back further in the exhibition of this scale would have meant omitting younger, and perhaps more urgent voices.”

Exhibition selected and organised by Isobel Johnstone, Curator, Arts Council Collection and Roger Malbert, Exhibition Organiser - assisted by Julia Coates, Lise Connellan, Jill Constantine and Peter Stiff.
