Manthia Diawara

Born, 1953 in Mali

Manthia Diawara is a prolific and widely respected academic and writer on matters relating to Africa and the African Diaspora. He has authored numerous essays, texts and books, including In Search of Africa, Harvard University Press, 1998; We Won’t Budge: An African Exile in the World, Basic Civitas Books, 2003; and African Cinema: Politics & Culture (Blacks in the Diaspora), Indiana University Press, 1992. He provided an essay for Back to Black (Whitechapel/The New Art Gallery Walsall) 2005.

Diawara contributed an essay, Independence Cha Cha: The art of Yinka Shonibare to the catalogue published on the occasion of the exhibition Yinka Shonibare - Double Dutch,  held at the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam from 21 February - 25 April 2004 and the Kunsthalle Wien in Vienna from 15 May - 5 September 2004.
