American exhibition of then-recent work by British artist Sonia Boyce, consisting of eight works produced between 1995 and 2000. The catalogue produced to accompany the exhibition was an important document as it provides a substantial guide to Boyce’s output during a time in which substantial exhibitions of her work in the United Kingdom were relatively rare. (The principal one being Performance at Cornerhouse, Manchester, in 1998).
The exhibition featured the following works:
The Audition Curtain, double-sided photographs suspended by ring-wire, 1997-99
Black Female Hairstyles, 50 collages, 1995
Choral 2, photographic and sound installation, 2001
Head 1 (Skin) and Head 2 (Dread), 2 photo silk screen street posters, 1995
I Want To See It: twirl, wiggle, spin and chew, 4 silent films, 1998
They’re Almost Like Twins, 2 inkjet prints onto heavy-duty vinyl, 1995
Tongues, 4 black and white photographs, 1998
Travel Writer, 5 photocopies of drawings, 1997-2000.
