Born, 1955 - 1961 (probably 1958) in Lahore, Pakistan. Died, 1992
Samena Rana was born in Lahore, Pakistan, coming to London in the mid 1960s, for treatment for severe injuries she had sustained, in an accident, a few years earlier. As an artist her preferred medium was photography, and she participated in a number of exhobotions, such as Panchayat’s ‘Crossing Black Waters.’ One of Rana’s photographs is reproduced in Gen Doy’s Black Visual Culture, I.B. Tauris, 2000.
A brief commemoration of Rana, written by Camille Dorney, appeared in Third Text, No. 20, Autum 1992, page 14. It was titled ‘Samena Rana 1955 - 1992.’
