From the Preface: “CAMOUFLAGE Art. Culture. Politics, was established in 1999 as an exhibition space, an artist’s residency programme (AREA), a publishing division (coartnews), and a video production and archive unit (Autopsia). True to our vision of supporting the best of contemporary African art, we are proud to presentthe first solo exhibition of Yinka Shonibare in South Africa. This publication not only documents the works on the exhibition, but also presents a larger body of work that encapsulates the various themes and developments in Shonibare’s career, from 19th Century Kids such as Mary Shelley and Sir Joshua Reynolds through to Aliens and painting installations comprised of African textiles on panels.”
