Marcel Pinas

Born, 1971 in Eastern Suriname

Marcel Pinas’s work, Afaka kibi supun (Afaka Protect the Spoon), 2005, was reproduced and discussed in Art in the Caribbean: an introduction, by Anne Walmsley and Stanley Greaves, in collaboration with Christopher Cozier, New Beacon Books, 2011.

From the catalogue Who More Sci-Fi Than Us?: Contemporary Art from the Caribbean: “He travels and exhibits all over the world, but remains forever true to his roots. He is especially affected by the violence and the destruction which occurred in and around his home village and in Moengo and Moiwana during the civol war in the interior in the 1980s and the bleak outlook of its youth.”
