From the inside front page of the calendar: “The Arts Council Collection is the largest national loan collection of post-war British art. Its is continually touring in exhibitions organised by Hayward Gallery and by other galleries, as well as being on long loan public buildings throughout Britain. Changing displays of sculpture in the Collection are regularly on view at Longside Gallery at Yorkshire Sculpture Park, but otherwise the Collection does not have a permanent gallery. The Collection is run by the Hayward Gallery on behalf of Arts Council England and is based at the Hayward Gallery and the Royal Festival Hall in London and at the Longside Gallery at Yorkshire Sculpture Park. decibel is an Arts Council England initiative, running from May 2003 - 2004, that aims to raise the profile and develop the infrastructure for culturally diverse arts in England. This calendar was developed for one main reason: to highlight the beauty, depth and scope of art from culturally diverse visual artists in Britain today. Some of these artworks and artists are immediately recognisable, some less so, but what is clear is that these are works that are meant to be seen. The criteria for choosing these images were simple. The selection panel was asked only to choose the images that they found most personally affecting and strong. We hope that you will enjoy them as much as we do.”
