“He always wanted to be an artist. But he didn’t start until 1964. What made him start? The Peace Corps came to his village. In a Welfare class they sometimes spoke about art and a few great artists. From these talks he got the push to stay with it. He submitted to the painting competition of the Kingston Festival in 1964. He won first prize in the age 12 - 18 years category because of a confusion over his age. Did anyone especially help him in the Peace Corps group? Yes. a man named Bill Ilsen.”
