Preview card for Barbara Walker’s second solo exhibition at mac birmingham, Shock and Awe, 23 April - 3 July 2016.
This was, so its publicity declared, “a major new commission of drawings by the acclaimed Birmingham artist Barbara Walker. Acknowledging an absence of representation over the past 100 years, Walker’s exhibition concentrates upon the contribution of Black servicemen and women to the British Armed Forces and war efforts from 1914 to the present day. Poignant and affecting, this remarkable collection of drawings recognises and commemorates the role of Black soldiers in contemporary conflict, and reflects upon historical events of warfare involving Britain and the colonised nations of the British Empire.”
One side of the card featured a reproduction of The Big Secret (2015), conte on paper.
The exhibition was commissioned by mac birmingham and curated by Lynda Morris and Craig Ashley.
