“Having worked as a news photographer for Gamma Press Images, Gilles Saussier shifted his practice in 1994 towards a more conceptual approach to photography, complicating and intersecting the genres of documentary photography and visual anthropology. Saussier’s interest in documentary photography lies in the idea of submitting to a common portrait procedure of social and cultural types, providing a topographic common ground and thereby initiating dialogue and social change.”
