Isa Gensken

Born, 1948 in Bad Oldesloe, Germany

From the archived Documenta 11 website : www.documenta12.de//archiv/d11/data/english/index.html

“Isa Genzken’s artistic practice comprises sculpture, photographs, collages, and films. Her subject matter is the object’s structure and texture as well as the correlation between an object and the space surrounding it. At the same time, she consciously deals with movements such as Constructivism or Minimal Art. Genzken has developed sculptures for public space; most often these are window-like frames made of concrete, steel or, since 1991, light- transmissive epoxy resin through which the supporting construction can be discerned. For the inside, Genzken developed columns as architectural quotations. Slim, tall, and rotating columns made of epoxy resin (1994) stand opposite static and more contained versions with surfaces of pressboard, marble, metal, or made of mirror and photographs (since 1998). Alongside her architectural models in epoxy resin, New Buildings for Berlin (2001)”
