“Touhami Ennadre is invested in discovering how to work without conventions or prejudices in approaching a subject, without fabricating a false scenario, which is contrary to photographic operations of fixing, framing, constructing and categorizing. Ennadre dislocates sites of memory, identity, death, and disaster through the representation of indistinct emblems of the place and its traumatic event. He locates emblems that memorialize place and identity but also resonate a lack of cultural specificity and speak to universalisms”—skin, stars, hands, shoes.”
