The following biographical entry on Marriott appeared in the catalogue Ten Jamaican Sculptors, Commonwealth Institute Art Gallery London, September 4 - 28 1975: “Born in St. Andrew, Jamaica 1904. Started to carve at age nine. Granted a British Council Scholarship and studied at Camberwell School of Art, London. In 1950 was selected, along with thirty European craftsmen to do reconstruction work on the House of Commons, London. Has exhibited widely in Europe, the United States and Jamaica. Gold Musgrave medal, 1970. Major commissions: “Olympic Runner”, the National Stadium, Kingston; statues of Rt. Hon. Sir Alexander Bustamante and Rt. Hon. Norman Manley at Parade, Down-Town Kingston. Is represented in many private collections in Europe, the United States and Jamaica, and in the National Gallery of Jamaica. Lives and works in London.”
