Catalogue produced to accompany touring exhibition of work by Guyana-born painter Frank Bowling OBE, RA. The exhibition toured to City Gallery, Leicester, Gallery II, University of Bradford, De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill-on-Sea, South Hill Park, Bracknell, Midlands Arts Centre (mac), Birmingham, and Herbert Art Gallery and Museum, Coventry, between 1996 and 1997. The exhibition, titled Frank Bowling: Bowling on Through the Century, was organised and curated by Eddie Chambers. Catalogue featured a short introduction by Caroline Collier, titled ‘On a First Visit to Frank Bowling’s Studio’. Followed by major texts by Martin Gayford, Mel Gooding and Veerle Poupeye. Catalogue features ten full page, full colour reproductions. A3 size, 24 pages.

As was noted on p. 27 of the catalogue for one of Bowling’s subsequent exhibitions, Frank Bowling | Bending the Grid an ongoing series, Aljira, a Center for Contemporary Art, Newark, New Jersey, USA [September 18 - December 10, 2003], “Despite its high quality and lavishly illustrated catalog, the major British touring exhibition, Frank Bowling: Bowling on Through the Century, is never reviewed, raising the question of whether the British art establishment has returned to its neglect of Bowling’s work.”
